Allprintheads Industry News — What Moved in Print This Week (August 3 – August 9, 2026)
Five days, six stories, and one thread running through all of them. This week the print trade spent its time on ink and where it comes from: Fujifilm Ink deepened an OEM tie-up built around a specific UV printer platform, Siegwerk put new capacity behind water-based and UV inkjet at two US plants, and Zeller+Gmelin lined up its dual-cure UV/LED range for PRINTING United. On the hardware side, Crown Labels stepped up to a seven-colour Domino N730i, Roland DGA opened its Irvine headquarters for a look across latex, UV flatbed and direct-to-object, and two more acquisitions closed. For a print shop, all six land in the same place: the ink you run, the head it runs through, and how long that pairing lasts.

Roland DGA opens its Irvine headquarters for a hands-on look at the current range

Roland DGA has scheduled an open house at its Irvine, California headquarters for August 14, with live demonstrations across its wide-format line. The confirmed lineup covers the TrueVis AG-640 latex printer/cutter, the EU2-1000MF high-volume UV flatbed, the RC-300 Series cylindrical object printers, the IO-300 UV flatbed, the TrueVis XP-640 and XG-640, the Dimense DA-640 dimensional surface printer, and the MO Series benchtop UV printers. “We are looking forward to familiarizing attendees with amazing products Roland DGA offers and how these machines can transform virtually anything with vibrant, detailed graphics,” said CEO and President Dan Burmeister.

PRINTHEAD ANGLE: That one lineup spans latex, UV flatbed, cylindrical direct-to-object and dimensional printing — four very different ink chemistries pushed through piezo heads. If you are walking a demo floor this month, ask which head is inside, what a replacement costs, and what life the manufacturer expects under your ink. Head consumption is the running cost most buyers forget to model before they sign.

Crown Labels steps up to a seven-colour Domino N730i

UK self-adhesive label manufacturer Crown Labels has installed a Domino N730i, replacing one of its N610i presses. The machine is configured as a seven-colour press including orange and violet, prints at up to 1200 dpi, and runs at 90 m/min in high-speed productivity mode. Digital now accounts for 65% of company revenue, up from 20% in 2019 when Crown Labels took its first Domino press. “The gradations are beautifully printed, the text reversals are finer, and everything we have seen from the new machine has been superb,” said director Tom Hardy.

PRINTHEAD ANGLE: Seven colours at 1200 dpi and 90 m/min means an enormous number of nozzle firings per second, every second the web is moving. UV inkjet label presses live or die on nozzle uptime — this is the segment where automated nozzle-out detection and compensation earns its money, because a single blocked row of nozzles becomes a visible stripe running the length of a roll before anyone reaches the stop button.

Fujifilm Ink deepens its OEM partnership with China Print Supplies UK

Fujifilm Ink, based in Broadstairs, Kent, has strengthened its OEM partnership with China Print Supplies UK of Oswestry. The agreement covers Fujifilm’s UV ink solutions and its thermoforming flexible ink technology; CPS supplies the Dlican UV printing portfolio, spanning UV flatbed, UV visual positioning, UV hybrid and UV cylindrical printers. “By working closely with China Print Supplies from the earliest stages of development, we’ve been able to optimise our UV ink platform specifically for their technology,” said Shaun Holdom, commercial director at Fujifilm Ink.

PRINTHEAD ANGLE: The phrase worth reading twice is “optimised specifically for their technology.” A UV ink is formulated around a particular head’s viscosity window, firing frequency and wetted materials. Ink that sits outside that window is one of the most common causes of premature head failure — so if you are switching ink, confirm it is rated for your exact printhead, not simply for your printer model.

Zeller+Gmelin lines up DualCURE UV/LED inks for PRINTING United

Zeller+Gmelin will exhibit its DualCURE range of energy-curable offset inks at PRINTING United Expo 2026, running September 23–25 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, on booth N5755. The showcase covers 98 DualCURE UV/LED process inks and blending bases, 97 DualCURE UV/LED Plastic process inks and blending bases for difficult plastic substrates, DualCURE cold foil adhesives, and the UV 27 Web Series. “We are looking forward to a repeat performance this year as we highlight our DualCURE UV/LED offset ink solutions,” said national sales director Brian Felts.

PRINTHEAD ANGLE: These are offset inks rather than inkjet — but the idea behind “dual cure” is the same problem inkjet shops are working through. As LED curing displaces mercury lamps, the ink has to cure at lower energy without shifting viscosity back at the nozzle. If you are retrofitting LED to a UV printer, the printhead is the component that will tell you first whether the new ink is genuinely compatible.

Siegwerk expands its Des Moines and Morganton plants

Siegwerk has announced a round of investment across its North American footprint under its FORMULA 2030 agenda. Des Moines, Iowa is receiving modernised milling and blending equipment, new white and colour production systems with inline batch production, and a new warehouse building that broke ground in early June; the site is focused on solvent-based flexible packaging. Morganton, North Carolina is adding water-based and UV-based inkjet production scheduled for completion in 2026, new milling and blending equipment for the narrow web portfolio, and a solar installation funded through a dedicated Green Fund. No investment figures were disclosed.

PRINTHEAD ANGLE: A major ink maker committing new capacity to water-based and UV inkjet says something about where converting is heading. Water-based inkjet is easier on the environment and harder on printheads: it dries faster at the nozzle plate than solvent does, so capping integrity, humidity control and purge discipline stop being housekeeping and start being the difference between a head that lasts a year and one that lasts a quarter.

Business & M&A · August 3–5

Deluxe closes Celero Commerce; Think Patented adds Clark & Riggs

Deluxe has closed its acquisition of Celero Commerce, a deal first announced on 18 June. The combined business is expected to process more than $70 billion in annual gross transaction volume, adds more than 55,000 merchant relationships and 130 bank partners, and carries more than $15 million in identified cost synergies; the purchase price was not disclosed. Separately, Miamisburg, Ohio-based Think Patented has acquired Clark & Riggs Printing of Louisville, Kentucky, founded in 1992. Terms were not disclosed there either.

PRINTHEAD ANGLE: Consolidation moves presses, and moved presses need parts. When two shops combine, somebody inherits equipment they did not spec and has no maintenance history for. The unglamorous first job is an inventory of what is actually installed — printheads, dampers, capping stations, wipers — and what spares exist, before a customer deadline is riding on a machine nobody in the building has opened up.

Whatever equipment you run — or are thinking about running next — the printhead is the heart of it.
